Overview

The OTHM Level 4 & 5 Diploma in Education and Training Management qualification aims to develop learners’ practical teaching skills and management understanding, preparing them for a variety of educational and training contexts. The combined qualification provides an introduction to education and training principles and practices at Level 4, while Level 5 enhances learners’ knowledge of policy, management theory, and practice in education.

Learners will gain skills in designing education programs, engaging learners, planning and monitoring work, evaluating training provisions, and reflecting on their practices. At Level 5, the focus shifts to leading change, effective performance, lifelong learning, resource management, planning, accountability, reflective practice, and professional development.

Entry Requirements

These qualifications are designed for learners who are typically aged 18 and above. The entry profile for learners is likely to include:

  • Relevant Level 3 Diploma or equivalent qualification (for Level 4 entry)
  • GCE Advanced level in 2 subjects or equivalent qualification (for Level 4 entry)
  • Relevant Level 4 Diploma qualification or equivalent recognised qualification (for Level 5 entry)
  • Mature learners (over 21) with relevant management experience (learners must check with the delivery centre regarding this experience prior to registering for the programme)

English Requirement If a learner is not from a majority English-speaking country, they must provide evidence of English language competency.

Equivalences

OTHM qualifications at RQF Level 4 and 5 represent practical knowledge, skills, capabilities, and competences. Level 4 qualifications are equivalent to Higher National Certificates (HNC) and Year 1 of a three-year UK Bachelor’s degree programme, while Level 5 qualifications are equivalent to Higher National Diplomas (HND) and Year 2 of a three-year UK Bachelor’s degree programme.

Qualification structure

The combined OTHM Level 4 & 5 Diploma in Education and Training Management qualification consists of 12 mandatory units, totaling 240 credits, 2400 hours Total Qualification Time (TQT), and 1200 Guided Learning Hours (GLH).

  • Level 4 Units:
    • Principles of Education and Training (20 credits)
    • Design Education and Training Provision (20 credits)
    • Engage Learners in Education and Training (20 credits)
    • Plan, Allocate and Monitor Work in Own Area of Responsibility (20 credits)
    • Evaluate Education and Training Provision (20 credits)
    • Professional Development and Reflection in Education and Training (20 credits)
  • Level 5 Units:
    • Applied Theories and Principles of Education and Training (20 credits)
    • Lifelong Learning – Key Concepts (20 credits)
    • Resource Management in Education (20 credits)
    • Develop and Evaluate Operational Plans for Own Area of Responsibility (20 credits)
    • Provide Leadership and Direction for Own Area of Responsibility (20 credits)
    • Reflective Practice and Professional Development (20 credits)

Assessment and Progression

All units within this qualification are internally assessed by the M-Gibes College of Business & Management, UK and externally verified by OTHM. The qualifications are criterion referenced, based on the achievement of all the specified learning outcomes.

Successful completion of the OTHM Level 4 & 5 Diploma in Education and Training Management provides learners with opportunities for academic progression, including the OTHM Level 6 Diploma in Teaching and Learning or top-up for bachelors degree.

Progression Route

Completing any of the level of qualifications will enable learners a progression to the next level of higher education at any UK university.
