OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT

Overview

The Occupational Health & Safety Management program is a multidisciplinary program designed to provide a broad range of knowledge in occupational health, safety, and environmental management systems that are critical to the success of an organization. This program gives participants a solid foundation in health and safety by developing the skills needed to effectively develop, implement, and evaluate health and safety systems in the workplace.

The emphasis is on learning how to apply legislation as well as recognizing, and evaluating workplace hazards. This program will prepare participants to be health and safety leaders by encouraging proactive behavioural change. While studying emergency response management, ergonomic principles, risk management principles, and workplace safety, participants will anticipate and employ strategies to manage emerging health, safety, and environmental issues.

What you will learn

Upon program completion, participants will be able to demonstrate the following core competencies: 

  • Develop an advanced understanding of occupational health, safety, and organizational risk applicable to any industry.
  • Gain strategies and methods for developing collaborative relationships among stakeholders to achieve greater health, safety, and risk outcomes and to better inform culturally responsive approaches.
  • Develop competencies to provide coaching and guidance and the abilities to identify, assess and communicate on matters relating to occupational health, safety, and organizational risk.

Program Modules

This module offers a unique insight into identifying potential hazards in the workplace and assessing the associated risks. It will provide guidance on how to identify and assess potential hazards, and provide recommendations for risk control measures that can be implemented in order to reduce the risk. Topics include:

  • Identifying Hazards
  • Analyzing Hazards
  • Risk Assessment and Evaluation
  • Risk Control and Management
  • Communication of Risk
  • Documentation of Risk Assessments

This module will cover the basics of workplace ergonomics, including how to design a workspace to reduce strain and maximize comfort. Topics that will be covered include:

  • Understanding ergonomic principles
  • ergonomic equipment and furniture
  • computer ergonomics
  • office layout and design
  • risk factors for musculoskeletal disorders.

Participants will also be introduced to tools and techniques to help them assess their current work environment and make appropriate changes.

This module provides a comprehensive overview of the various regulations and standards that must be adhered to in order to ensure a safe working environment for employees. It includes a library of safety regulations, industry standards, best practices, and other relevant information that can be used to help ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards. Topics cover areas such as:

  • Introduction to Safety Regulations and Standard Compliance
  • Regulatory Bodies and Their Role in Safety Compliance
  • Creating a Safety Compliance Program
  • Analyzing the Impact of Safety Regulations and Standards
  • Best Practices for Implementing and Maintaining a Safety Compliance Program

This module will provide guidance on how to conduct an effective investigation, including how to collect evidence, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions. It will also provide advice on how to effectively communicate the results of the investigation and recommend changes to prevent similar accidents from occurring in the future. Topics include

  • Information Gathering-securing the scene and collecting facts
  • Fact Analysis-developing the sequence of events and determining the cause
  • Reporting and Recommendation

The module provides a systematic process for conducting safety audits and inspections that help to identify and address potential safety issues before they become a problem. Topics include:

  • Introduction to Safety Audits and Inspections
  • Areas Of Safety and Inspection and Audit
  • Safety Inspections
  • Auditing Methodology and Techniques
  • Audit Reporting

Safety professionals, managers, and supervisors in the workplace, as well as those responsible for implementing and managing an occupational health and safety program.

It is also suitable for those who have a general interest in learning more about the field of occupational health and safety.
